Mac and I made it home this afternoon. He is currently sleeping in his own bed, with his own blankets, no extra tubes hooked up to him, and all the people he loves the most surrounding him. We will never not be grateful to leave the hospital with him. We've always known how precious his life is, but after walking along side our friends who lost their little boy, who was perfectly healthy a month ago, that point has been driven home extra hard.
Not only are we done with this hospital stay, we are done with this chapter of Mac's life. We received the pathology report on Mac's tumor, and it requires no chemotherapy, no radiation, not even any extra scans to monitor anything in the future. Jeff and I let out a breath that we didn't even realize we'd been holding the moment we got that news. The oncologist cried with me as he handed me the report and watched the news sink in.
Mac has a long, hard road to recovery. He's up to the challenge though, especially with all of the support and love he's been shown. While I would never wish a tumor or lifelong brain condition on your child, I would absolutely wish that somehow, some way, you can experience the goodness that has been shown to us as we walk this road with Mac. Our families and friends and even friends of our families pick up our slack and take care of needs we didn't even know we had. Our hydrocephalus friends that have grown to be like family provide us with strength, humor, incredible knowledge and support every step of the way. They understand our lives in a way not many can. Most of all, Jeff and I are so thankful that our kids see what loving people well looks like, and can't wait to see the way they express your good example in the future. I'm so grateful for all of your influence in their lives, and ours. We truly couldn't do these hard things without you.
Please think of our friends as you think of Mac. We continue to be amazed by their courage and grace.
So happy you guys are home and he is doing so well. Great news about his pathology report.
