Still Here :)

Mac is being a trouper. Yesterday was a big day for him. Dr. Gruber looked at his scan and surmised that the two catheters were draining the same space, so one of them needed to be moved in order to drain a separate spot that had gotten slightly bigger. The drain tubes come out of the top of his head, and are sutured into place so that they can't be inadvertantly moved. So, in order to move the one, he had to remove the stitch, slide it out about an inch, and then suture it back into place. This was all done without any sort of numbing or pain medication. I'll say it again: babies are the toughest creatures on the planet.

Mac's scan today showed that the space had gotten even bigger again today, so the move didn't do the job it hoped it would. So, Tuesday, Mac will go back into surgery and have the drain from the top right of his head moved to the back right, the area opened up with the same instrument they used in this most recent surgery, and we hope that will do the job. The drain on the left hand side will be replaced, as they can only be in for 10 days to prevent infection. He'll have scans again on Wednesday, and then if all looks well, the shunts will be internalized on Thursday. Hopefully then we'd be home by Saturday? Time and the scans will tell!

Other than all of that, if Mac didn't have drain tubes sticking out of his head, you'd never know anything was going on. He's happy as can be....he eats, stays awake and jabbers for a bit, then naps and starts it all over again. He did get some pain medications after the fact yesterday that made him pretty sleepy, but other than that, he's just living the dream. I've been a little nervous with how he would do once he wasn't so out of it, since he can't be held at all right now. Hasn't been a problem yet, though!

We have had the best nurses during this stay, so I am feeling comfortable heading out here and there. I'm really looking forward to seeing the other kiddos :)
